Um…hi.

Just a random update on me, for those who care to know.

My old computer was biting the dust rather rapidly and making it hard for me to be online for more than 30 mins at a time. Frustrating as hell. It was either the vid card or the RAM going bad, or both…and even though the computer was only about a year and a half old, it doesn’t take much more than that for them to outdate themselves. So, rather than pay around 300 or more to fix a computer that was maxed out at 2gigs, I decided to get a new beast!

Yay for new beast! So, I was fixed. I got my shiny new puter and it was so grand. But…then I ran into a snag – couldn’t upload into SL ..at ..all. Took a few days, some stress and headache and thanks to a tip off from a forum user, I was saved! YAY ALL FIXED AGAIN! (yes the caps are needed)

I’ve been repairing my goof up on all my poses. OY. I suck for screwing that up. That has taken up a few days. But I AM back in the saddle again, working on new releases (lots and lots of couples/group stuffs) and also some fun freebies for my group, for participation in events and things like that.

In the meantime I’ve been catching up on the 3 weeks of shopping I missed out on. Turning black for a week. Converting to Gala (yes I did it). Playing at being neko for a bit. Etc, etc. Just having fun. Grabbing bits and pieces of time to spend with my honey now that his busy season is upon him.

Oh and I’m in an FCC auction thing, which was the reason for this update actually. lol. A friend is having an auction – she gets 30% of the proceeds to help keep her land running, but we each get 70% to do with as we please. I’m thinking of starting an “adopt a noob” monthly project for fun, so I might put it towards that. But as part of winning me you get a 5k, 1 hour shopping spree with me! :O Lots of people involved, and lots of stuff offered – from dates, to sex, to custom work, texturing, clothing – seriously, there are some hot guys offering some nice stuff ladies! Oh, and some hot babes offering nice stuffs too.

Where’s Dove?

Ha. I was logged out because I haven’t visited wordpress in so long, and when I went to type in ‘wordpress.com’ I typoed and put ‘wadpress.com’ …heh. Okay, anyway, that’s not why I’m posting. ;p I’m posting to give you guys an update and share some stuffs!

First of all, I had some major power issues this week, I was pretty much offline from Monday night until Thursday evening. ARGH. Worst-week-evar for that to happen. So now I’m behind in ..well…pretty much everything and I already had too much on my plate as is.

What’s on my plate?
I’m trying to almost simultaneously open four, yes FOUR, satellite shops on the grid. I am in the process of expanding and reordering my main shop. I’ve already done a complete wipe of the landscaping and changed that. I’m also trying to get out the female sets of poses I’ve been promising for a month now, 3 are done just need boxed, 2 are in the works and I have over 5 new couples and group sets. OY! I swear, the photoshopping part takes longer than the actual poses themselves. Motherfuck. I am also a sponsor to an event. Participating in the fash expo. Working on a couple of larger collaborative projects with others and …god what else. lol.

If not for Law keeping me sane I might have already snapped. Speaking of! As soon as the new GLAM issue comes out you guys should run and get it – my honey wrote an article for the magazine! I won’t gush and bubble too much ..but yeah.

What else. OOOOH!! Another thing that has been keeping me on my toes lately are the newest additions to my family! Meet my new babies, arrived a week ago, baby orange and black baby.

That was taken the first day I got them, they are only about 3 weeks old and their eyes were barely open. I got them from someone who was a neighbor to the people that left them homeless! They moved and took the mama cat with them and totally left all the babies to die. So the neighbor took them in and couldn’t do it by herself so she gave some away, and I got my two girls! I still have to bottle feed them, but they’re growing and learning SO fast.

That’s my babies snuggling after an epic brawl, they’re about 4 weeks old now. I’ve named black baby, little cricket. For now we’re calling baby orange, pretty baby – but I think I might change that to darlin girl or precious or something like that since she’s such a sweetheart. Cricket is a total punk – mean, she’s totally the adventurer, fearless…first to climb out of the box, first to not only climb ONTO the couch, but also nose-dive off of it. Baby orange is just sweet and shy, but she’s definitely the smart one, she took to the bottle first, and also used the litter box first.

So yeah, they are a handful themselves and keeping me quite busy too. I guess that’s all for updates on the where-abouts of Dove. :p Wish me luck! <3

Idle Thoughts..

Isn’t it weird how even the most private of private people will still fill out a profile…have a flickr…write a blog and who knows what else? I’m guilty of the exact same thing. I consider myself a pretty closed-up and private person for the most part – trust me when I say you are getting from me, only exactly what I want to give to you and nothing more. But I was tinkering with my profile again and I couldn’t help pausing and thinking – wtf? Why do I care if people know this or that about me? Why the fuck do they need to know? Here I am, Miss Private, but I will still let the world know who my friends are, what I enjoy doing, who I love. Why?

Humans must be naturally such self-centered creatures – even the most shy and withdrawn of us.

One of my favorite lines to find in a profile is: “it’s none of your business.” If it’s truly no one’s business but your own, why put it in something that is, from start to finish – for the public? Profiles by their very nature are intended for OTHER people to read – not yourself. Why would you profile yourself? You already know all that bullshit.

I also love that people tend to believe that by reading a person’s blog, or profile they KNOW that person. I would love to know what people think of me after reading my blog and profile. I’m bitchy and I have a poo fetish? HA. I guess I just tend to believe that people are way too deep for it to be all that simple – even when they’re so shallow. I also know that because of the nature of this beast (computers, the internet, etc) …we never truly “get” a person as they are or as they come, you get pieces and parts to make up a whole that you’ve perceived and which might not always be accurate or true.

I can count on one hand the number of people I would allow to say they “know” me. I could probably narrow that down to a couple of fingers, even. So it’s weird to me that I keep a personal blog, fill out a profile, and the like. I wonder why I do that.

This is me, avoiding working on poses. :p Alas, back to it I go!

Quirkiness…

I was just browsing the feed and jotting down some stores to check out when my pen started running out of ink. I’ve been using this pen for months but I didn’t think I used it *that* much …so I glanced around my desk and …well, yeah, I have used it quite a bit. So, it inspired me (yeah, inspiration comes from some of the weirdest places) to give you guys a peek into “Dove-ities” …

1. I tend to write everything down, even though I have this huge electronic machine in front of me that could easily store all of the information I could ever want it to …I still keep a pen and paper handy.
2. I have a notebook that is almost full of ideas for poses, pose sets, magazine page numbers to reference, etc and so on. Nothing but pose stuff goes in this notebook. When I create new poses, they are numbered – “pose348″ – it’s not until they get in-world that they get a dorky name – so I write all of that in my notebook ”pose348 = Goofy”…it might be a little redundant and overkill (especially considering I also keep this information in a spreadsheet)…but yeah.
3. I have all these little shreds of paper and envelopes and netflix movie packaging scattered all over my desk and each one of them is covered, front..back…top…bottom …ALL over in nothing but SLURLS, store names, items I want to buy, checklists of things to shop that day and things I’ve marked off.

Now, I do make use of this handy machine from time to time…

1. I keep a notepad that I copy and paste snippets into …this might seem smart but the part that’s kind of stupid is that I copy and paste EVERYTHING and ANYTHING into it. So, when I go to look for something, I have to skim through email addresses from 1942, funny quotes from people who I haven’t spoken to in ages, webpages that have long since expired and gone inactive – etc. I’m not sure what’s so hard about creating a new notepad file each time?
2. As precisely organized as I can be (I know it doesn’t sound it, but at least I know *where* everything is, just might take me awhile to find it. lol), when I go shopping in SL, I still haven’t learned the trick of keeping a “daily shopping folder” …so my inventory becomes this cluttered mess that has to be sorted folder by folder, piece by piece. I DO keep a demo folder though. Hair, shoes, skin, clothes, whatever….if I can’t try it on while I’m there, I stick it in my demo folder and try it at a later time and if it’s a win, I go back and buy it.
3. You know that “My Notes” tab on people’s profiles? I keep ALL sorts of stuff in there. Any time I meet someone new, I jot down a ‘where-how-why-when’ kind of note so that I can remember them. I know that’s really almost shallow of me, but I have a terrible name-to-memory ..memory. I also use that tab to store other information (birthdays, connections between people, etc). The tab on my profile is full already with my to-do list, custom job requests and such, so sometimes I will use the tab on my close friend’s profiles to keep other stuff….”don’t forget to pay SOM on this day. Don’t forget tier is due X. Don’t forget to download an illegal movie before sunday.” That sorta stuff.

Yeah, I’m kinda bored. Law is at work, I’m supposed to be working on poses or decorating our treehouse and planning a party….but …I just can’t be arsed! I think I’ll log in, go shop and spend ungodly amounts of monies. Yay!

Some more quirks for ya, they just dawned on me while I was looking at flickr.

I am a perfectionist. I am also a procrastinator. And I have a loyalty complex. All of these combined at certain times can make me almost intolerable. Examples?

*Dove doesn’t have a decent AO. When I reopened I thought it might be a little tacky of me to run around using someone else’s AO (even though I adore ANA:Mations!) when I’m a supposed pose maker myself. So I stuck a few of my poses in an AO and voila – I’ve been using it ever since. It’s lame. I’m a freakin POSE maker and I can’t even be arsed to make my own avatar an AO??
*I have been promising AOs and animations for months, I am currently working on a bunch of guy stuff that should lead me in that direction, actually. Why is it taking so long? Because I can’t be pleased with what I’ve done so far. I work in Poser, I upload, I stare at them for a few minutes each and then I decide that they’re utter crap and I don’t want to release them. Rinse, repeat.
*My loyalty complex isn’t quite so harsh as my perfectionist/procrastination issues (which seem exact opposites of each other at times yeah?) – but it can be annoying. Say, one of my favorite designers under a certain label decides to split and do their own thing – I’m suddenly, completely, torn. Do I stick with the old label and remain true and faithful – or do I go with the favored designer in their new adventure or can I simply remain loyal to both? Isn’t that insane? But that’s how my brain works.

I really am a weirdo. Hmm.

RFL Clothing Fair 08

Yeah, I went there. I think I got in about an hour after it opened to the public, so it was hectic but that was to be expected. Oh, and before I forget – for the love of God people, remove your fucking attachments, prims, scripts, bling, etc! (mutters) Okay then. Back on track! :p

I probably don’t need to tell you that it was set up on four sims donated by Rezzable, and the sims were themed by seasons; Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter. I think the layout idea was kinda cool, but seemed to have floundered a bit somewhere along the way….tons of empty space not just in the center of the four sims, but also empty lots along the sidewalk shopping areas too – were those empty spaces meant for designers or no? I never did get my questions answered as to who decided what shops went where…the most I could gather is that maybe the shops were placed by “theme of the season” ….darker shops in the darker seasons, bubbly shops in the spring and summer sims. No idea. Fall and Winter sims seemed easiest to navigate, less lag and crowd, I’m sure that’s a direct connection to the shops offered in those sims, as the spring and summer sims were pretty much jam-packed the entire time. Amazingly, none of them crashed while I was there!

Anyway, I have to say if I were giving a rating to this event it would get a …..C-….I hate to say that because it’s for a great cause and everyone involved (I’m assuming) was on a volunteer basis and all the work was done for charity. BUT…it was just rather disappointing. I guess I was wrong to expect new releases at this event, from some of our favorite designers – or if not new releases, perhaps exclusive RFL items. If you go, you will soon find out what I did – a very small handful of shops even had anything new to offer and a large large large amount of the vendors didn’t even offer an RFL item….at …all. I’m not sure how that’s exactly kosher, considering this is an RFL fund-raising event? I’m hoping (although I could never get a clear answer on this one either) that the stores that didn’t have an RFL vendor at least donated some or all of their proceeds at the fair to RFL.

On the actual shops there, it wasn’t a terrible selection. I was a little surprised at some of the designers that *weren’t* there…and a little surprised also by some that *were*! It was such an odd mix, I have to wonder how exactly the designers were picked. It ranged from unheard of designers (you’ll see why), to really big names (some I’ve never seen participate in these sorts of events). There was an ungodly amount of fantasy-themed designers, I think I saw more of that than anything else there – not sure why, was that intentional?

Pretty much, to sum it up, the fair is basically your typical, daily, shopping-sim, adventure – imagine one of your favorite sims to shop, throw some donation kiosks around it and you’ve got the RFL Clothing Fair. Nothing all that special about it, except the cause itself. If I were you, I’d wait, let others brave the lag and chaos, read up on fashion blogs that mention or highlight the good shit, get in, get out and then just donate from afar.

I walked away with five items, two were RFL purchases, one was just a random purchase from a favorite designer, since I was already there, and the last two were from a shop (new to me) which did not have an RFL vendor in it that I could find. To be fair and not just a sourpuss, I’ll drop some goodies on you too!

RFL Clothing Fair Pick: TULI (and it’s an actual RFL vendor item! it’s in the Winter sim, on the Fall end.)
Honorable Mention: *ICING* (another actual RFL vendor item! Spring sim, near Winter.)
Small Perk: Moonshine (I’ve never shopped this store before, I don’t think it’s emerging at the fair but it’s new to me. I thought they had some really fun and fresh design concepts and styles.)

UPDATE-
I’ve been watching the feed coverage on the clothing fair, and I feel like I should add – to be fair (ha!) – that there were a ton of things that were not at all my personal taste (TONS of fucking gowns, which usually fall under ‘fantasy-themed’ for me personally heh). I also forgot to mention that (although, more have been added since the first day for some reason, as have more RFL items, probably because people were bitching and quite confused) if you are looking to score freebies, supposedly there’s a nice collection of those also. I didn’t go looking for freebies myself, I went looking for newness and RFL exclusives. So yeah….just thought I should add that, for people who are down with the gowns and freebs.

How do you shape up?

At most of the big shopping events in the past months, whenever I take Dove about and I get trampled by people …I start noticing how freakin’ odd Dove looks paired up against other avas. So, that’s gotten me thinkin more and more lately….what exactly is the standard or average in avatar shapes in SL? IS there one? So I thought I’d poll you guys if you’d be so kind to take a little minute for me. Totally just curious, and I’m not going to ask for any shape specifics that will allow anyone to rip yer look off or anything…thanks in advance!

I haz clothes! :o

I made this outfit and I just HAD to blog it. First thing that caught my eye – the colors, so vibrant and full. I especially loved the shading under the boobs and detailing along the seams. Check out that photosourcing work on the buttons and pockets – elite I say. The skully on the tanktop is especially cute, and it’s pink, so for all of you grungy, gothy punk girls …this outfit screams out to you! Buy me! I’ve decided to release it for only 550L and I plan to add some arm warmers and maybe a necklace to the set as well. Next week I’ll be branching out into men’s wear and forcing Law to blog it…so stay tuned!

But seriously – I have a new respect for ALL clothing designers in SL, even the most newbish of newb designers. This is my first attempt at making clothing. It’s okay to laugh.

Okay, let me paint a little picture for you. I’m out shopping some random sim, trying to decipher the japanese language when in my ear, the sweetest angel of a male voice said:

Him: Honey, what are you doing?
Me: Shopping, what are you doing?

At this point in the story I tp into this unknown sim, I’m surrounded by gray and nothing, but in my ear I hear the sweetest angel of a male voice and he ….

giggled? That was the first red flag. The giggle of doom. I immediately start camming around thinking that maybe he dropped me into a nudist beach or a horse-banging fetish barn. But I couldn’t see anything! He was awful quiet …and then I see this thing rez around my avatar:
