Poofy Creep

Posted by doveswanson on May 15, 2008

I haven’t been able to *really* get dressed in weeks…I’ve been too busy to take the time required for an outfit assembly. I’ve been ‘out-of-the-box’ing it. GASP. Not just that, but my inventory hasn’t been sorted in probably two months, I had 8k worth of items sitting, taunting me. Today I started breaking it down some, since I’m home-alone for the weekend (miss you already baby!) and in the process I found a few pieces that were a *must* to wear so I started throwing them on.

The main reason for this outfit and probably the piece that I most adore is this new dress from amerie’s NAUGHTY, it’s called Jellybean and it’s too cute! Lots of lace, poofy, figure-swallowing skirt and a HUGE bow on the front! Yes, it’s pink …but I dealt with it. :p You can mod it and tint that sucker any color you want, I left it alone because the pink broke up all the black rather nicely.

I have so many hairs from booN and I can’t pick a favorite, they’re all such great texture work and rich colors, and the styles are so unique - you can easily spot a booN hair in a crowded room. This one isn’t a style I would normally wear but when I bought it I knew it would fit my dolly-girl looks pretty well. I love that it’s so big, you can’t really tell in these photos but in the back it layers and layers, kind of swelling out and up, like an onion. I love that.

The shoes were kind of hard for me to settle on, I thought I wanted to do the typical chunky ribbons and straps gothy-lolita style shoe but I really really love my UBU rainboots and I think they give any poofy dress outfit a nice dose of ‘aw cute’ in the way they are over-sized and clunky-looking. I can just picture shorty Dove running around struggling not to let the rain boots trip her up or fall off of her feet.

Lastly, I wanted huge, spine-crippling beads for a necklace and I recalled that HoH had just released a new necklace that fit perfectly! I’m wearing the silver version which is mod, so I just tinted it black and voila. As for the rest, it’s all goodness but I’m too lazy to actually mention it. A little modded-up curious kitties, a too-sweet freebie hat, fuzzy leather gloves, and of course some killer socks. For a final dose of cutie-effect, I threw this funny little guy on Dove’s back and let him ride around for awhile…figure I might as well get some use out of all the crazy shit I have in my ‘Random Stuff’ folder. Heh.

Where’s Dove?

Posted by doveswanson on May 9, 2008

Ha. I was logged out because I haven’t visited wordpress in so long, and when I went to type in ‘wordpress.com’ I typoed and put ‘wadpress.com’ …heh. Okay, anyway, that’s not why I’m posting. ;p I’m posting to give you guys an update and share some stuffs!

First of all, I had some major power issues this week, I was pretty much offline from Monday night until Thursday evening. ARGH. Worst-week-evar for that to happen. So now I’m behind in ..well…pretty much everything and I already had too much on my plate as is.

What’s on my plate?
I’m trying to almost simultaneously open four, yes FOUR, satellite shops on the grid. I am in the process of expanding and reordering my main shop. I’ve already done a complete wipe of the landscaping and changed that. I’m also trying to get out the female sets of poses I’ve been promising for a month now, 3 are done just need boxed, 2 are in the works and I have over 5 new couples and group sets. OY! I swear, the photoshopping part takes longer than the actual poses themselves. Motherfuck. I am also a sponsor to an event. Participating in the fash expo. Working on a couple of larger collaborative projects with others and …god what else. lol.

If not for Law keeping me sane I might have already snapped. Speaking of! As soon as the new GLAM issue comes out you guys should run and get it - my honey wrote an article for the magazine! :D I won’t gush and bubble too much ..but yeah.

What else. OOOOH!! Another thing that has been keeping me on my toes lately are the newest additions to my family! Meet my new babies, arrived a week ago, baby orange and black baby.

That was taken the first day I got them, they are only about 3 weeks old and their eyes were barely open. I got them from someone who was a neighbor to the people that left them homeless! :( They moved and took the mama cat with them and totally left all the babies to die. So the neighbor took them in and couldn’t do it by herself so she gave some away, and I got my two girls! I still have to bottle feed them, but they’re growing and learning SO fast.

That’s my babies snuggling after an epic brawl, they’re about 4 weeks old now. I’ve named black baby, little cricket. For now we’re calling baby orange, pretty baby - but I think I might change that to darlin girl or precious or something like that since she’s such a sweetheart. Cricket is a total punk - mean, she’s totally the adventurer, fearless…first to climb out of the box, first to not only climb ONTO the couch, but also nose-dive off of it. Baby orange is just sweet and shy, but she’s definitely the smart one, she took to the bottle first, and also used the litter box first.

So yeah, they are a handful themselves and keeping me quite busy too. I guess that’s all for updates on the where-abouts of Dove. :p Wish me luck! <3

Idle Thoughts..

Posted by doveswanson on April 23, 2008

Isn’t it weird how even the most private of private people will still fill out a profile…have a flickr…write a blog and who knows what else? I’m guilty of the exact same thing. I consider myself a pretty closed-up and private person for the most part - trust me when I say you are getting from me, only exactly what I want to give to you and nothing more. But I was tinkering with my profile again and I couldn’t help pausing and thinking - wtf? Why do I care if people know this or that about me? Why the fuck do they need to know? Here I am, Miss Private, but I will still let the world know who my friends are, what I enjoy doing, who I love. Why?

Humans must be naturally such self-centered creatures - even the most shy and withdrawn of us.

One of my favorite lines to find in a profile is: “it’s none of your business.” If it’s truly no one’s business but your own, why put it in something that is, from start to finish - for the public? Profiles by their very nature are intended for OTHER people to read - not yourself. Why would you profile yourself? You already know all that bullshit.

I also love that people tend to believe that by reading a person’s blog, or profile they KNOW that person. I would love to know what people think of me after reading my blog and profile. I’m bitchy and I have a poo fetish? HA. I guess I just tend to believe that people are way too deep for it to be all that simple - even when they’re so shallow. I also know that because of the nature of this beast (computers, the internet, etc) …we never truly “get” a person as they are or as they come, you get pieces and parts to make up a whole that you’ve perceived and which might not always be accurate or true.

I can count on one hand the number of people I would allow to say they “know” me. I could probably narrow that down to a couple of fingers, even. So it’s weird to me that I keep a personal blog, fill out a profile, and the like. I wonder why I do that.

This is me, avoiding working on poses. :p Alas, back to it I go!

How I Love Thee, Part I

Posted by doveswanson on April 20, 2008

Sometimes I feel like I don’t pause enough to appreciate all the fun and amazing things in SL, and I tend to jump on the wagon and nitpick just as quick as the next. So, I thought it would be fun to share things that I do SO love! These are a few things from my inventory that I have an addiction to, that I cannot stop buying, that I can’t say no to, that are just downright irresistable to me!

The first installment of love fest 08 is: socks! Lovely, beautiful socks. The most adorable accessory an avatar can own. Socks, leggings, tights, stockings, pantyhose - whatever you want to call them, they’re nothing but lovelovelove. This is my homage to the socks in my inventory - not even half of them, not even a quarter of them, but some of my favorites or some that are just plain worthy of mention and attention. Even as I was working on this post, just in the course of a day, I’ve probably already added 10 new pairs of socks to my inventory collection. It’s a sickness …it’s love, what can I say.

First up we have the shorter sockies, some primmed up, some tubed, some frilled - all cute. You’ll notice, if you haven’t already been reading my blog, that I love stripes and I love black and white. Most of my socks reflect this in some way. I’m a sucker for anything with skulls on it, that’s the wannabe gothy-punk girl in me coming out. I normally can’t resist a lower-bunched prim sock either, basically because they’re not all that common. And tube socks, I love to steal guy’s tube socks and prance around in them, it’s almost as hawt as a chick in guy’s boxers. The Nyla frilly socks are so cute and unlike anything I’ve found anywhere else, but you should be aware that the prims do wonky things when your legs bend and move.

(L-R)
*Needful Things* -  Emo Punk Socks, gray
*Saha Neko Stuff*  - lucky socks, white
Ducknipple - prim socks, grey
Primitive Designs - fuckd uP socks, black
Sh*t Happens - Tube socks calf high, black
House of Nyla - white eyelet lace frill socks

Next, the slightly longer styles, knee and thigh, I love to pair a knee-high sock with some leggings, it’s just something that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside - gotta love the sock/underpant layers. :D I really love when designers take something as simple as a sock layer and add prims to it and make it so much more fun and dynamic. That’s what attracted me to the Shiny Thing’s socks, that and they’re plaid - but just that simple addition of ribbons at the sides totally sold me. Same deal with woolies, I’m a sucker for them because of those fat primmies that ride high on the thigh and just look so warm and inviting - yum.

(L-R)
Shiny Things - Weird Plaid socks, black
DUTCH TOUCH - Old socks combination pack, grey
*DP Serendipity - Pippi socks long, blue
*Honey+Kitty* - Dot border socks, black and white
Canimal - Torn socks over stockings, black
WRONG  - stripey socks, black
Curious Kitties - Pretty Jinsei Butterfly Stockings, Black

And then there were the thigh-highs. I tend to lean towards the more dramatic in thigh-highs than I imagine most people do. When most people think thigh-highs they probably think sexy-hawt - which they are, don’t get me wrong ..but I rarely wear them for that reason. I wear them as an accessory to cuteness, wrongness …general disturbedness (is that a word?). I rarely wear skirts short enough to show them off, so I go for the flare, the bang from foot to thigh as you can see. I love lace work on thigh-highs, but I have to admit that even though they don’t really come in a color combo that I can thoroughly enjoy, the thigh-highs from LeeZu are really inventive and different from most styles out there.

(L-R)
*amerie’s Naughty*  - Candy socks STAR (long)
Spice & Sugar - party girl stocking
*amerie’s Naughty*  - torn fishnets, midnight
LeeZu Baxter - Anna Stockings
*Sheer* - Nylons Stripes, Black
[lilolOops]  - japonese flowers leggings

Lastly, the full length - hose, stockings, tights, whatever you call them. These are great for any purpose really - shorts, skirts, 3/4 pants and so on. The only time these might get a little annoying is if your pant/glitch layer is too short and shows the tops, or if they are on the same underpant layer your stockings probably will be on - eep! I love glittery and metallic sheers in my full-lengths, something about them really pulls it off in a way the shorter styles and lengths can’t. It’s probably a good thing I walk around in stockings and so many layers all the time, since I think I might only own like two pairs of panties in my entire inventory - otherwise the upskirt shots might get ugly. :o

(L-R)
Blaze*  - pantyhose, black
G.L.A.M. - tintable metallic lycra tights, gold
Shop SEU - Taitsu taight, blue
Gigi Couture - Solid Black Glitter tights
Draconic Kiss - Striped stocking, black and white

Whew. Okay, I’m done babbling on about this shit like I actually know anything about it. But yeah, those are just a few examples of the socks I love and why. I realized while writing this post that I completely left out one of my all-time favorites and I really need to give a shout-out to Digit Darkes, totally awesome socks there! Also, I had some socks from bijou already, but I made another visit today and found even more upstairs - they’re too cute, you should go get those too. I need to add that most of these socks come in packs with tons of colors, or they can at least be bought in other colors.

Ack, I wish I had more time, room and a longer attention span and I would so blog socks for days and days. :p How I Love Thee, Part II, coming to a blog near you soon!

Drop Dead Fashionista!

Posted by doveswanson on April 16, 2008

The second that I saw the Tiffany hat from Cachet hit the feeds, I knew I wanted to get my grubby paws on it and butcher the hell out of it. So yeah, when people ask me ‘hey, what did you buy at Cachet?’ - I can respond with ‘um, a hat and a pair of gloves.’ The hat you see in these pictures is probably pretty unrecognizable, that’s the result of not only retexturing, but also tinting- yay! Go team me! <3 mod/copy items!

So, I had the hat, picked a hair to stuff under it and then I got a brilliant idea - why not bust down a pretty. Yes, I’m coining that one. What is busting down a pretty? It’s when you take a pretty idea and ruin it to pieces. :D That’s when I thought - oooh, I can put on all my “fabulously glamglamglam” items and parade them around in the way only I’d consider absolutely cool. In comes another item I got from one of those hot-off-the-press designers: Paper Couture - dangling pearl earrings. Yeah…I got shoes and jewelry from there. Heh.

I tossed on a <3 Cupcakes dress, always a winner for that cute-babydoll look - again, darkly tinted. I also went back to my favorite lace choices from amerie’s NAUGHTY and topped it all off with some blood, bandages and wounds. Yum! There’s some various odds and ends added in the mix, like the big fat pearls that every ga(g)-ga(g)-fashionista needs and I can’t seem to stand having my upper arms bare so I threw on some arm-bows too. The shoes were just a fun way of keeping it butchy-boi, with my own personal flare.

There you go, that’s how you go from fashionista to fashion-whatthafucka.

Funky Fluff’n'Stuff

Posted by doveswanson on April 13, 2008

This outfit isn’t anything amazing, I mostly threw it together just as an excuse to wear my ]monogrind[ mosh and roll shoes (you can see a better picture of them over on Law's blog: Half Arsed), and this too-cool skele beater from Schroodenfrooden (yeah, I say the name of that shop however it pops out of my mouth). Somehow, after picking through my inventory I ended up with something almost girly, but ...oddly, fluffy? Dunno how that happened. It looks cluttered, but honestly, knowing me and my obsession with attachments, if I had taken more time and had more patience, I would have added even more adornments. Since I was goofing for the most part, I slapped on an emoter while taking the photos and had a little fun with that. hehe.

The hair I chose is a longer style than I would normally wear, but it was just funky enough to make the mark. I tinted it darkly because it only comes in a brownish shade, but in photos and the new fucked WL viewer the tinting washes out most of the texture and gives it no depth - so for these photos I lightened it back up some. No, I'm not going brunette, do not worry. :p As you can see, the skele-beater is just fantastic goodness, what's not to love about it? I took a front and back shot because you just have to see how cool it is. I wanted to pair it up with a tattoo because I felt my arms/shoulder area were left too bare but I have this terrible habit of buying tattoos without considering how they will look with most of the clothing in my inventory...so yeah...I end up with tats that are mostly hidden under clothing. I suckzor. Instead, I went with the always fail-safe fishnet layer! Woo!

These shoes were the entire inspiration for this outfit - I just HAD to wear them and needed an outfit in a hurry so I could get them on my feet and parade around in them. I lovelovelove them! They are so much more spectacular in-world - trust me, but yeah, go over to Half Arsed for an even better photo of them. Oh, as a side note - I typically love the hell out of leg warmers of any kind...but I found these in my inventory while trying to find a pair to wear with this outfit ...and I'm not gonna say I'm entirely happy with them. First of all, they're mod but you can't mod them smaller without doing it in pieces because it already has small prims attached to it. Secondly, they're huge and bulky and for a shorter-legged ava, they tend to swallow you whole (even though sometimes I like that dwarfed look on Dove) and forget about bending the knee even slightly, they're going to look like they are jutting from your leg weirdly. I really only kept them in this outfit because they went nicely with the fluffiness of my arm warmers and the string-dangle-ness of my upper-arm wraps. I'll probably be deleting them after I finish wearing-out this outfit.

There ya go, lazy credits below!

A Simple Guide to Losing Monies!

Posted by doveswanson on April 12, 2008

I’ve been on a crazy shopping spree lately - seriously, I’m out of hand. But let’s not talk about that right now, let’s talk about just a few things that I find annoying when I am shopping. This is just a list of things that irk me, things I’ve kept in the back of my mind for just such a post! So, maybe I speak only for myself, we’ll see I suppose, but here are some ways to lose money real fast!

1. Put labels on your clothing. Be it a brand name printed across the clothing item, or a funny little logo placed indiscreetly, or in some cases, even an actual PRIM attachment on a clothing part or accessory. This is the fastest way to get my brain to shut off and my purse to clinch tighter than my asshole. The very millisecond that I see a label or logo on clothing/items I immediately skip right over it. I refuse to buy items such as these - I won’t do it. I don’t want your store name on my tits or ass. And if you create accessories that are mod (no-mod accessories? see #2) you can guarantee I am modding the fuck out of that thing as soon as I get home and I’m ripping your silly dingle-dangle logo off of it anyway. I understand that the increase in logos and labels on items lately is due to and in direct-relation to the increase in content theft, but as an alternative, why not stick it somewhere a little more discreet, or simply make it more discreet - period.

2. Make accessories no-mod. I’m not going to lie and say that I will always avoid no-mod accessories, because sometimes I just HAVE to have certain things. But it’s surely a way to make me pause and really debate if I actually do need it that badly. I will almost always pass it up if it’s a new store I haven’t purchased from before (or seen on someone else in-world), because then I’m unsure of how sizing looks, and if it would fit properly without modding, etc. Even if I purchase, often times, the no-mod accessories end up sitting in my inventory unused once I get pissed at not being able to: resize, tint, or take off extra parts I don’t need. One of my favorite things to do is take an accessory and tint the hell out of it (and sometimes certain pieces just *need* full-bright on), my second favorite thing is to pick it apart so that it’s totally custom and unique to me.

3. You probably won’t lose money on this one, but this is just something I would personally enjoy more of. If at all possible, please put your items in a folder, so that when we purchase, we receive the contents in a folder, properly named, in our inventory - that way all we have to do is drop that folder into the proper top-level folder and voila! I hate when things are boxed. Call me lazy, whatever - but I hate having to drag it out of my inventory, rez it, delete/take it, and THEN get to the inventory sorting part. I understand that sometimes you have to box things, I understand that sometimes as a creator, that’s just easier on you - but I want you to make it easier on me because I’m selfish. :p If you could, please include a landmark to your (mainstore) location - oh. my. god. I cannot understand people who do not do this? Why wouldn’t you? It’s one of the easiest forms of advertising and getting repeat customers at that. And lastly, if you could include a picture, even if it’s just the vendor image you use in your shop, including a copy of that in the folder would be so nice - that way when I go back to that folder months later, I can recall, easily, what exactly is in it. Yay!

4. Bling. Bling goes almost hand in hand with no-mod accessories. If you put bling in something - I will buy it ONLY on one condition - it HAS to be mod. And even then, I will often skip right over it on the simple basis of it being bling. Ew. Why do you do that? Even when you include bling with the on/off function, I hate having to type that every time the shit decides to kick on. I also don’t like having to rely on modding to destroy the bling altogether. I’m not sure who in the world ever thought that bling was cool and neat or even attractive - but …hello…it’s not. Get over it already. Besides, now there is a new function for you to abuse - glow! Yahoo! I actually don’t mind glow, but I’m sure some of you will make me grow to hate it - I’ll add another number when that happens.

5. Use texture-changing, button activated vendors. Okay, I’ll cut you some slack in some cases - I understand that sometimes you are cramped for prims and so you stick as much as you can into these push-button vendors, I get that. But, if you can, please, please avoid them. They’re really annoying, laggy, time-consuming and I’m just too lazy and impatient to deal with them in most cases. I want to pop into a tp drop-zone, wait the mandatory 5 minutes for things to load, and then turn in a full circle, have a full-on clothing-gasm and start buying. I don’t want to wait 5 minutes for 5 vendors to rez, and then proceed to click thru each one invidually, 50 times, and wait another 30 seconds or more for each new texture to load. Noe. Don’t do this to me, please. I’ll get bored quickly and I’ll leave in the first 10 minutes without ever seeing half of your inventory.

6. This is just another personal peeve one - but if you are a content creator, why won’t you put your store location somewhere in your profile? Picks. Classified. Where ever the fuck you want to put it, just put it there. I do a ton of my shopping in this order: see someone wearing something cool, right click and inspect something cool, click view creator profile, tp from their picks/classifieds. Guess what? If you don’t have it in your profile, often times, I just won’t take that next step to hunt it down in the search. It makes no sense, marketing/advertising-wise for you not to have it in there and it just makes it so much easier on us, the customer.

7. Have a lame-ass customer service policy. Okay, I get it, it’s all LL’s fault, not your’s. I DO understand that as a content creator myself, believe me. But after this long, we all know, it’s just common place for you to take responsibility for LL’s fuckups, and take responsibility for your customer’s satisfaction and experience in your shop. You better believe that if I happen to pull up your profile prior to purchasing, and notice that you have something like this in it, I won’t be buying from you: “I am not responsible for transaction failures, there will be no refund or replacements on failed deliveries, etc blahblahblah” - Are you kidding? I could almost understand this a little bit if the items in question are trans-okay, but if they are no-trans, what’s your problem? That just sounds like you are lazy and if you want to say you have far too much business and that you’d spend all day taking care of this kind of stuff if you started allowing it - well, duh - that’s your job. You don’t complain when you get our money. If you don’t want to provide customer service, or simply can’t - stop selling, put your stuff out for 0L, or hire staff to help you with that issue, if you are making that much damn money you can afford to pay them to handle the headache of your customers.

8. Last but not least, and I’m putting this one in here for my honey. Heh. Make your doorways too short for taller avatars so that they can’t even enter your shop. Yes, it has actually happened - and more than once. It’s actually kind of funny considering the number of avatars that are freakin giants, but yeah, apparently some content creators are shorties and make their doorways to the scale of their own avatars. I mean, I find it amusing myself, walking in under the wire at 5′8, but I don’t think Law finds it very funny to hit his head on the doorway and be stuck outside while I snickle at him and continue shopping. :D

Okay, it’s getting late and I think I’ve bitched enough to cover the whole week. I couldn’t let Law show me up on my own blog. :p Have fun shopping!

Guest Bitch: Lawless McBride

Posted by doveswanson on April 8, 2008

On the ranch I grew up on, we had chickens…dozens of hens and a few roosters specifically. If one of those hens ever got hurt and wound up with an open sore on her, we had to grab her and put her in her own little pen until it healed…not because we were worried she could make the other chickens sick, but because if we didn’t, she would most likely wind up dead. That’s because if the other hens saw that open wound on her, they would start pecking at it…and pecking…and pecking…and pecking, opening up that wound until eventually she was dead. This is a harsh scene of nature that gets played out in chicken pens around the world on a regular basis.

Yesterday, I saw a scene that was not only eerily similar, it was obviously stolen right from Mother Nature ™….that’s right, another SL ripoff!! Ironically, this scene was being acted out in the middle of cries for originality and artistic integrity. How hypocritical that the very ones ready to besmirch someone for being unoriginal would steal this barnyard scene and act as if it were their own, and at the end of the day, not a single one of the “pseudo hens” gave credit where credit was obviously due - both shameful and almost embarrassing in their blatant theft and attempts to mask it. As an avid outdoorsman and one who lives in the middle of the nature’s rugged playground, beautiful British Columbia, I feel like I am the best person to act as a spokesman for Mother Nature ™ and demand recompense. If you were one of the human “hens” involved in yesterday’s “pecking”, first of all, you need to cease and desist…what you took part in was an act that originated with Mother Nature ™ and is nothing but another form of intellectual theft!! As for the fomenters of this infringement, I and Mother Nature ™ will require a formal apology along with your promise to completely avoid any further “hen pecking” behavior or behavior that is closely related. Be advised that failure to do so could result in legal problems down the road….be advised that we here at Mother Nature ™ frown on theft of any kind, and will not write off future incidents as innocent mistakes.

On a completely personal level, your friends and families must be so proud of you!! Please note if you do not agree with this rant, you are most likely stupid in RL and are probably ugly too…have a great day!!

Pixie Cute

Posted by doveswanson on March 30, 2008

I didn’t want to do another ranting or silly post, but I felt like doing ….something…and since I’ve been shopping like mad-crazy the past week, why not do another one of these fashion-y things? :p This one is kinda pixie-cute, and in my typical black/white shades and tones. I was actually really tempted to slap some wings on this one, but it kept throwing off another attachment so I gave up in the face of having to find a new attach point for something else. I’m lazy!

You’ve probably already seen or knowing you guys, own, this cute Mimikri blouse and skirt combo (I opted for the short white rather than the matching black pattern skirt). It’s a little pricey but it’s really adorable and versatile with lots of layering and attachment options - not only that, but in the store you can find multiple layers of clothing to pair up (pants, skirts, etc). As soon as I saw it on the feeds I knew I wanted to have it and work it with my own personal, quirky, style. Originally, I thought I might work more color into this outfit, believe it or not - but once I got started, I just happened to have enough pieces in my inventory that just ….fit. I’m still not 100% happy with the final outcome of the look, it seems a little lacking, but maybe there’s some beauty to the simplicity. I guess I can’t be wearing wounds & stitches ALL the time. :p

If you haven’t been to amerie’s NAUGHTY yet - what rock have you been hiding under? It’s really one of the better kept secrets in SL, although it’s not quite so secret anymore. (aside: you should check out Spice & Sugar, her sister-project shop with a friend, cute stuffs!) If there’s one thing that amerie does well, it’s lace, and I lovelovelove her leggings. I actually combined two different pairs in this outfit; an underpant layer that was a simple lace-fringed pair of white leggings, and over that I wore black-lace, floral patterned stockings. Why did I do this? Because I could. I also happened to like the way the black-on-white muted the black and the white underneath left no leg-flesh to peek out.

Oh, and I can’t stop there without mentioning the leg warmers. I don’t really give enough credit to Curious Kitties, I have been a LONG time fan of CK (even back when DK was part of CK), probably bought my first item from CK in my first weeks in-world…and probably half of the accessories and odds’n'ends in my inventory are from CK - so I really wanted to pause and mention that if you guys are ever in the market for really cute and cheap accessories that are absolute quality and detail - you should go there. I mean, CK offers a WIDE wide wide range of inventory (skins, hairs, clothing, even plants!) but my favorite part of the sim is the accessory section. Collars, jewelry, arm and leg warmers, hair accessories, ribbons, bows, hats, bells - you name it, it’s there and done in such a unique and special way. The necklace I’m wearing in this outfit also comes from CK, I told you, I’m a true fan.

Of course, I had to spice this outfit up with a little “Dove” attitude….so yeah, that’s a spiked arm-bracer you see there. Heh. I couldn’t help myself. Kinda makes you go “awww” and just as you get close enough to peek at the cutie, she slices you into bits and pieces and eats you for dinner! Rawr! Or something. Last but not least, if you know me, which most of you won’t know this - but those who do will know instantly why I just had to own this hair as soon as I saw it. Not just because it’s spunky and different, but well ….if you know, you do, if not …maybe one day. ;) That’s it from me …once again I’m not gonna bother with SLURLS, but if you need an LM just yell at me in-game! <3

Quirkiness…

Posted by doveswanson on March 26, 2008

I was just browsing the feed and jotting down some stores to check out when my pen started running out of ink. I’ve been using this pen for months but I didn’t think I used it *that* much …so I glanced around my desk and …well, yeah, I have used it quite a bit. So, it inspired me (yeah, inspiration comes from some of the weirdest places) to give you guys a peek into “Dove-ities” …

  1. I tend to write everything down, even though I have this huge electronic machine in front of me that could easily store all of the information I could ever want it to …I still keep a pen and paper handy.
  2. I have a notebook that is almost full of ideas for poses, pose sets, magazine page numbers to reference, etc and so on. Nothing but pose stuff goes in this notebook. When I create new poses, they are numbered - “pose348″ - it’s not until they get in-world that they get a dorky name - so I write all of that in my notebook ”pose348 = Goofy”…it might be a little redundant and overkill (especially considering I also keep this information in a spreadsheet)…but yeah.
  3. I have all these little shreds of paper and envelopes and netflix movie packaging scattered all over my desk and each one of them is covered, front..back…top…bottom …ALL over in nothing but SLURLS, store names, items I want to buy, checklists of things to shop that day and things I’ve marked off.

Now, I do make use of this handy machine from time to time…

  1. I keep a notepad that I copy and paste snippets into …this might seem smart but the part that’s kind of stupid is that I copy and paste EVERYTHING and ANYTHING into it. So, when I go to look for something, I have to skim through email addresses from 1942, funny quotes from people who I haven’t spoken to in ages, webpages that have long since expired and gone inactive - etc. I’m not sure what’s so hard about creating a new notepad file each time?
  2. As precisely organized as I can be (I know it doesn’t sound it, but at least I know *where* everything is, just might take me awhile to find it. lol), when I go shopping in SL, I still haven’t learned the trick of keeping a “daily shopping folder” …so my inventory becomes this cluttered mess that has to be sorted folder by folder, piece by piece. I DO keep a demo folder though. Hair, shoes, skin, clothes, whatever….if I can’t try it on while I’m there, I stick it in my demo folder and try it at a later time and if it’s a win, I go back and buy it.
  3. You know that “My Notes” tab on people’s profiles? I keep ALL sorts of stuff in there. Any time I meet someone new, I jot down a ‘where-how-why-when’ kind of note so that I can remember them. I know that’s really almost shallow of me, but I have a terrible name-to-memory ..memory. I also use that tab to store other information (birthdays, connections between people, etc). The tab on my profile is full already with my to-do list, custom job requests and such, so sometimes I will use the tab on my close friend’s profiles to keep other stuff….”don’t forget to pay SOM on this day. Don’t forget tier is due X. Don’t forget to download an illegal movie before sunday.” That sorta stuff.

Yeah, I’m kinda bored. Law is at work, I’m supposed to be working on poses or decorating our treehouse and planning a party….but …I just can’t be arsed! I think I’ll log in, go shop and spend ungodly amounts of monies. Yay!

EDIT:
Some more quirks for ya, they just dawned on me while I was looking at flickr.

I am a perfectionist. I am also a procrastinator. And I have a loyalty complex. All of these combined at certain times can make me almost intolerable. Examples?

*Dove doesn’t have a decent AO. When I reopened I thought it might be a little tacky of me to run around using someone else’s AO (even though I adore ANA:Mations!) when I’m a supposed pose maker myself. So I stuck a few of my poses in an AO and voila - I’ve been using it ever since. It’s lame. I’m a freakin POSE maker and I can’t even be arsed to make my own avatar an AO??
*I have been promising AOs and animations for months, I am currently working on a bunch of guy stuff that should lead me in that direction, actually. Why is it taking so long? Because I can’t be pleased with what I’ve done so far. I work in Poser, I upload, I stare at them for a few minutes each and then I decide that they’re utter crap and I don’t want to release them. Rinse, repeat.
*My loyalty complex isn’t quite so harsh as my perfectionist/procrastination issues (which seem exact opposites of each other at times yeah?) - but it can be annoying. Say, one of my favorite designers under a certain label decides to split and do their own thing - I’m suddenly, completely, torn. Do I stick with the old label and remain true and faithful - or do I go with the favored designer in their new adventure or can I simply remain loyal to both? Isn’t that insane? But that’s how my brain works.

I really am a weirdo. Hmm.
